Partners Redesign; Fixed vs. Liquid layouts
I'm happy to announce finally the launching of the new design of the corporate website of Partners Ltd. - advertising company, working with 3M products and making quality products. Yet another redesign with web standards, tableless layouts and valid sematics XHTML from yours truly.
You can read more details about this redesign in the Portfolio section of this website.
I think that this is one of my first commercial websites, using liquid tableless layout. Fixed layouts are something good. But sometimes, and especially when you have 3 or more columns, tables with huge amount of data etc., the liquid layout can be very useful.
A couple of weeks ago I was asked by one guy, why my website (Makaveev.com) uses fixed layout. The guy said "On my monitor, your websites looks so small. I'm using 1600x1200 resolution and most of my screen is empty! So, please, do something for us - the users!". I wasn't bothered by this man. Because I know that my website looks very narrow on 1600+ resolutions. But, hey, wait a minute - that's my own website! I can do what I want with it! So, I like THIS website with THIS fixed layout! And I want to tell something to all of you, using large(19''+) monitors - I'm currently working on some liquid stuff for here. So, very soon(after 1024 years), all users will have the ability to change the layout from fixed to liquid(something like the SimpleBits.com way).
And if you are still not satisfied of my opinion about the fixed vs. liquid layouts, you can read the "Fixed Fashion" by Jeremy Keith!
